I’m Jennifer McKeever, a somatic psychotherapist, trauma educator, and transformational group facilitator. But I didn’t arrive here because I had it all figured out.
For years, I lived from a place of hyper-independence and overachievement. I was driven by fear, shame, and the belief that love had to be earned. It took me a long time to realize I wasn’t broken – I was deeply conditioned to disconnect.
In my 20’s, chronic pain and depression led me to Chinese Medicine, where I earned my first Master’s degree and spent over a decade in clinical practice. Those years taught me to listen to the body not as something to diagnose or correct, but as an expression of a person’s history, emotions, relationships, and way of adapting to the world.
That deep listening eventually pulled me toward more integrative, somatic approaches. I earned a second Master’s degree in Psychotherapy and Spirituality, became a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and trained as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, a BioDynamic Breathwork & Trauma Release System® instructor, and a Path of Love leader.
Over time, another question became just as important to me:
Who are we when survival is no longer the centre of our identity?
My work is rooted in nervous system science, shaped by more than two decades of clinical experience, and fueled by a fierce love for our capacity to heal. It has also been shaped by decades of spiritual exploration and my ongoing study of the Diamond Approach.
These traditions have influenced my understanding that healing is not the construction of a perfectly healed self. It is a process of discovering what exists beneath the identities we have taken ourselves to be.
At the same time, I avoid any spirituality that asks us to transcend pain before the body and our history have been heard. The work I trust does not move around our wounds, defences, relationships, or humanity. It moves through them.
Some people from my earlier teaching communities and YouTube videos may have known me as Prema. Today, I teach and practise under my given name, Jennifer.
The people I work with usually understand their patterns well. What they are missing is not insight — it is a new experience of who they are underneath the patterns.
Looking back over 30 years of my own inner work, I can say that healing did not make me permanently calm, and it did not remove every pattern. It gave me more room to feel without being overtaken. To protect myself without disappearing. To belong without abandoning myself. And to live from something deeper than adaptation.
Everything I learned walking this spiral, first as a patient and a student, then as a clinician and facilitator, eventually became a map: From Trauma to Trust™, a somatic and relational framework for the journey back to aliveness.
I live in Vancouver, BC with my husband Neil.
We’ve been happily together for more than a decade, which is something I once didn’t believe was possible for me. We continue to grow and explore life together, supporting each other through midlife (and beyond!). Neil is also a counsellor, so we sometimes co-facilitate groups, which is a uniquely nourishing part of my life and work.
Above all, what lights me up is witnessing people rediscover their aliveness. Not in spite of their pain, but because they’ve dared to meet it with presence and heart.
This work isn’t easy. But it is sacred.
And it’s my honor to walk alongside those who are ready to go deep.
Over the past three decades, I’ve studied and trained in a wide range of therapeutic modalities that bridge science, soul, and the body’s innate wisdom. In addition to being a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #24880) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC #11242608), here are some highlights from my professional and educational background:
